Trabzonspor have begun scouting Uzbekistan captain Eldor Shomurodov as a potential replacement for Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu, with the Turkish club bracing for a possible departure of their star forward this summer, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Turkish newspaper Taka Gazete reported that despite public insistence from club president Ertuğrul Doğan that Onuachu is not for sale — even at €20m — Trabzonspor’s management have quietly started identifying alternatives in the transfer market as interest in the Nigerian continues to intensify.
Shomurodov, who currently plays for İstanbul Başakşehir, has emerged as the leading name on their shortlist.
The 30-year-old shared the 2025/26 Süper Lig Golden Boot with Onuachu after both strikers finished the season with 22 goals apiece — making him a natural fit should a vacancy arise.
Onuachu, who is contracted to Trabzonspor until the end of the 2027/28 season, enjoyed one of the most productive campaigns of his career last term and has attracted serious attention from clubs across Europe.
The club’s stated position remains firm, but the scouting activity signals that Trabzonspor are unwilling to be caught off guard.
