Suspected Kidnappers abducted one resident and shot another when they stormed a residential area, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, the Quarry area of Arab Road in Kubwa.
The attack took place between 11pm on Saturday and midnight on Sunday, and the victim who was shot by the bandits later died in the hospital on Sunday.
The secretary of the community, identified only as Dairo, told DAILY POST that residents were made to understand the incident by the sound of gunfire as the assailants reportedly entered the community through a nearby hill and carried out their devilish act.
He explained that they started hearing gunshots around a house towards the hill and the local security tried to repel them in a gun battle but could not succeed as the assailants entered the victim’s apartment.
According to him, “After the assailants entered the victim’s apartment, They shot him and took his younger brother away.”
Dario further explained that police officers later arrived after the attack, but then it was already too late as the suspects had already left with their victim.
The community secretary described the incident as the third successful kidnapping incident in the area in recent years, saying that the entrance of the kidnappers is always through the hill into the community.
Dairo stated that another resident was kidnapped in May last year and was released after payment of ransom.
He also stated that the kidnappers had tried to enter the community two or three weeks earlier but were repelled by local security personnel, who had always resisted attempts by bandits to have their way in the community.
He said the community had established a strong local security network comprising vigilantes and hunters to safeguard residents following the persistent attacks by terrorists.
The secretary called on the government and security agencies to establish a police station or increase patrol operations in the area in order to curtail the activities of terrorists invading the area at will.
Efforts to speak with the FCT police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, failed as at press time.
