Boxing protégé Abdulahi Robiu lit up the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame monthly show in May with a performance that announced his arrival as one to watch at the Agege Stadium over the weekend.
In the male 70KG headline bout, the Possible Boxing Club fighter from Yaba outclassed Favour Eze, securing a commanding 5-0 unanimous decision.
Nicknamed “Successful”, Robiu was visibly elated as he soaked in the applause.
For the young boxer, the victory was more than just a win — it was a milestone in a career still finding its footing.
“I feel happy and so excited because I won this fight,” he said.
“I just want to thank all my fans and commend my coaches. This fight is a great day for me, and I’m enjoying it. I also want to thank the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame for always organising this every last Saturday of the month. We really appreciate this opportunity,” Robiu said.
The evening’s card featured 10 contests, including two exhibition bouts for boys and girls, and it delivered plenty of drama.
Lawal Ismail impressed with a unanimous win in the male 75KG against Ojichukwu Obi, while Sarah Akinola edged Adah Obi in a tense female 70KG split decision.
Muiz Ogunshola battled past Ismailia Sanusi 3 2 in the male 65KG, and Abdulahi Adebayo showcased grit and technique to overcome Michael Jeremiah in another split decision thriller.
Elsewhere, Quadri Obayemi defeated Bright Majekodunmi in the male 55KG, Owolabi Opeyemi dominated Kola Ogunsemore in the male 60KG, and Daniel Daramola was awarded victory in the male 50KG after Habeeb Adebayo’s disqualification.
For coaches like Abdulhakeem Yinus of AY Gold Boxing Club, the LBHF monthly show is more than just a competition — it is a grassroots crucible where future champions are forged.
“This platform is important at the grassroots level,” Yinus explained.
“With consistency, Lagos will produce boxers who can compete at the very top.”
The May edition marked the 146th LBHF monthly show, continuing a tradition that has become a fixture on the last Saturday of every month.
