The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspected political thugs allegedly linked to the attack on a Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate’s affirmation event in the state.
A faction of the PDP loyal to Abdurrahman Muhammad and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had earlier alleged that suspected thugs attacked its governorship candidate’s affirmation programme in Bauchi, smashing vehicles and destroying banners.
Confirming the development, the command said it had launched an investigation into the incident and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Nafiu Habib, disclosed that operatives attached to the ‘B’ Division, GRA, arrested two suspects in connection with criminal conspiracy, disturbance of public peace, and mischief following the attack on the PDP Secretariat in Bauchi.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on May 24, 2026, when unknown persons allegedly invaded the PDP Secretariat along Maiduguri Bypass while the party’s governorship primary election was ongoing.
The police said the attackers disrupted public peace, vandalised campaign banners of the PDP governorship candidate, and damaged the windscreens of several vehicles parked along the roadside before escaping on motorcycles.
Habib stated that following the incident, which gained traction on social media, the command activated intelligence and investigative measures that led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.
He identified the suspects as Hamza Abdullahi, alias “Dawa,” of Behind Old Airport, Bauchi, and Abdul Malik Dahiru, alias “Black,” of Doya Area, Bauchi.
“The suspects have been handed over to the Violent Crime Response Unit for discreet and comprehensive investigation. Upon conclusion of the investigation, they will be charged to court accordingly,” the statement read.
The police spokesperson further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Aliyu, warned against acts capable of breaching public peace and destroying property, especially during political activities.
He assured residents of the command’s commitment to maintaining security and said the police would not tolerate any form of violence or political thuggery.
The command also urged members of the public to remain calm, law-abiding, and report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.
