A resident of Mittiri Village in Yobe State, Ibrahim Mittiri, has reportedly confessed to falsely accusing a local hunter of being a member of Boko Haram over a long-standing personal dispute.
The incident was contained in a post shared on X by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.
Security sources said the matter began on May 24 when Mittiri allegedly informed another resident, Umar Abdullahi, popularly known as Gajeri, that the hunter, Aji Ibrahim, was linked to the terrorist group.
The allegation was reportedly passed to troops of Sector 2 under Operation Hadin Kai, which led to the arrest of the hunter.
However, during preliminary investigation, authorities discovered that the accusation was connected to a seven-year personal dispute between Mittiri and the hunter, a case said to still be in court.
Sources said Mittiri later admitted during interrogation that the allegation was false and driven by personal grievances.
He was quoted as saying that his intention was to get the hunter arrested and possibly exposed to harsh treatment by security operatives.
Investigators also found that Mittiri and Umar Abdullahi were allegedly involved in intelligence gathering for local groups and had been receiving monthly stipends for their activities.
Both suspects have now been arrested and are expected to face further investigation and possible prosecution over false accusation and abuse of security processes.
