Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze is heading back to AC Milan this summer after Fulham opted against making his loan move permanent, leaving his long-term future at the Italian club uncertain, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 27-year-old joined the Cottagers on a season-long loan from Milan last summer, with Fulham holding a purchase option reported to be worth around €25-30 million.
Despite some encouraging moments in the Premier League, the west London club have decided the overall cost is too steep relative to his output and will not trigger the clause.
Chukwueze managed three goals and four assists across the campaign, contributing pace and directness to Marco Silva’s side in transition. However, his inconsistency ultimately convinced Fulham’s hierarchy to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements this summer.
According to Tuttomercato, the Nigeria international will return to San Siro once his loan expires, though what awaits him there is far from clear.
Chukwueze endured a difficult two-year spell at Milan before his move to Craven Cottage, struggling to nail down a regular starting place under the tactical demands of Serie A.
He arrived at the club in 2023 with considerable expectation following an impressive stint at Villarreal, but never quite delivered on that promise consistently.
Milan are currently in a state of rebuild following the dismissal of Max Allegri, adding further uncertainty around where Chukwueze fits into their plans for next season. He could be reintegrated into the squad or made available for transfer as the club reshape their options.
There is, however, reported interest from elsewhere. Everton are among the clubs said to be monitoring his situation, and with the transfer window yet to fully open, further suitors are expected to emerge for a player who, at 27, still has plenty to offer at the top level.
