The Jigawa State Police Command says it has deployed operatives and activated all operational assets to guarantee a peaceful and hitch-free Sallah celebrations in the state.
The assurance was contained in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, by the Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shi’isu Adam.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna Yahaya, felicitated with the people of Jigawa State and the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Adam said the Command is committed to ensuring a peaceful, safe, and hitch-free festive period across the state.
“Residents are assured that the Command has deployed robust security measures and activated all operational assets across the state to guarantee maximum security before, during, and after the celebration,” he stated.
He explained that personnel from tactical and conventional units have been strategically deployed to critical locations.
These include the Violent Crime Response Unit, Patrol Teams, Intelligence Operatives, Traffic Officers, EOD and PMF personnel, and undercover operatives.
The PPRO noted that the deployments cover Eid praying grounds, recreational centres, markets, highways, motor parks, and other public places.
The statements added, “The police are also working with other security agencies and stakeholders to strengthen safety measures.
“We have intensified intelligence gathering, confidence-building patrols, stop-and-search operations, and surveillance activities aimed at preventing criminal activities.”
He added that the operations are designed to maintain public peace and order throughout the festive period.
Also, the directive of the State Police Commissioner, CP Yahaya noted that “all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to remain vigilant and professional.”
Moreso, SP Adam quoted the Commissioner as saying, “they are tasked with ensuring effective visibility policing and prompt response to distress calls within their Areas of Responsibility.”
The Command also appealed to residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security personnel by providing timely information.
The police command also urged parents and guardians to caution their wards against reckless driving, dangerous horse riding, substance abuse, and any act that could breach the peace.
“The Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property and assures residents that no stone will be left unturned,” Adam stated.
Eid-el-Kabir, also known as Eid al-Adha, is one of the most important festivals in Islam, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command.
The celebration is marked by special prayers, the slaughtering of livestock such as rams, cows, or goats, and the sharing of meat with family members, neighbours and the less privileged as symbols of faith, sacrifice and charity.
