The National Emergency Management Agency has issued a fresh flood alert, identifying 15 local government areas in Lagos State and 19 in Ogun State as moderate flood-risk zones for the current rainy season.
The agency urged residents in the affected areas to take immediate preventive actions to mitigate the impact of flooding, which has become a recurring challenge in parts of Nigeria during peak rainy seasons.
NEMA disclosed this in a notice posted on its official X handle on Tuesday.
“Is your LGA listed as a flood-risk zone? Take action early: clear drains, avoid floodwater, move from riverine areas and follow official alerts,” the agency said.

The agency warned against residing in riverine areas without adequate preparedness.
“Act Now, Stay Safe,” the agency said in its public notice, emphasising the need for early preparation to reduce the devastating effects of flooding.
Residents were also encouraged to stay informed through official channels and report emergencies via NEMA’s toll-free hotline: 0800CALLNEMA (0800 2255 6362).
The alert comes as meteorological forecasts predict increased rainfall intensity across southern parts of the country, raising concerns over potential flooding in low-lying and poorly drained urban and semi-urban communities.
