Wikki Tourists FC have announced the death of defender Kabiru Mohammed following a fatal road accident along the Zaria-Gusau road, with the Nigeria Premier Football League club describing the loss as a devastating blow to the team and the wider football community, Saturday PUNCH reports.
The club disclosed the news in a statement on its official Facebook page on Thursday, confirming that Mohammed died in the crash. He had made 26 league appearances for Wikki Tourists this season, according to the NPFL.
Mohammed joined Wikki Tourists from Lobi Stars during the ongoing 2025/26 NPFL season and quickly established himself as a reliable member of the club’s backline, earning the respect of teammates, coaches and supporters through his commitment and discipline. His final appearance for the club came in the President’s Federation Cup fixture against Jigawa Golden Stars Junior Team at the Nasara Stadium, Kofar Doka, Zaria, on May 19, 2026 — just days before his death.
“The club is deeply saddened to announce the tragic death of Mohammed following a fatal accident along the Zaria-Gusau road,” the statement read.
“The Management, Technical Crew, Players and supporters of Wikki Tourists FC extend heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and the entire football community over this painful loss.”
The NPFL also paid tribute on X, writing, “Wikki Tourists defender Kabiru Mohammed sadly passed away on Thursday following a road accident. Our deepest condolences go to his family, teammates, friends and the entire club.”
