The Oyo State Government, through the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State, has commenced the distribution of subsidised food commodities to interested workers in the state as part of efforts to cushion the economic challenges ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Chairman of the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State, Akeugberu Akeugbagold, disclosed this during the unveiling of the distribution exercise held on the corporation’s premises in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, and made available to newsmen in Ibadan, Akeugbagold said the initiative was aimed at supporting workers to celebrate the festive season with ease.
The ACCOS chairman, who spoke through the Coordinating Head of the corporation, Mr Tunde Oladejo, revealed that “over ₦120 million was expended on the procurement of the commodities.”
“The gesture forms part of the welfare-driven programmes of the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, geared towards improving the wellbeing of workers in the state,” Akeugbagold said.
“The commodities include rice, Kings vegetable oil and rams, all made available at subsidised rates to interested workers across the state,” he added.
Sheikh Akeugbagold disclosed that beneficiaries of the commodities would repay the cost through deductions spread across three months, commencing from their July 2026 salaries.
According to him, the initiative underscores the commitment of the present administration to workers’ welfare and food accessibility, especially during festive periods.
He urged beneficiaries to continue supporting the policies and programmes of the state government, assuring them that the administration would continue to implement people-oriented initiatives.
