The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, on Friday said his utmost desire is to see a united All Progressives Congress family in Benue State.
Speaking with journalists at the Makurdi Airport on Friday, Akume addressed concerns over the outcome of the state, National Assembly, and governorship primaries across the state, which were allegedly marred by irregularities.
He said he was aware of the grievances within the party but maintained that consequences would follow at the appropriate time.
The camp of Governor Hyacinth Alia reportedly dominated the National Assembly and State Assembly primary elections held across the state.
The SGF said that as a leader and one of the founding fathers of the party, he would continue to work for unity within the APC and uphold the principles of fairness on which the party was founded.
He said, “What I want to say is this: I want the APC to be a united family. This was how we intended it to be. Those of us who were founding fathers of the party, we don’t want factions in our party.
The SGF stated that his visit to the state was to mobilise support for the presidential primary election scheduled for Saturday, insisting that Benue remains fully in support of President Bola Tinubu.
He urged residents of the state to come out en masse for the exercise, expressing confidence that the President would secure re-election in 2027.
“I just want to appeal to our supporters in Benue State to remain calm and to come out en masse to vote for the primaries for our presidential candidates.
“Let them forget about what happened during the previous primary elections. This election, I believe, is going to be different. I want to believe.
“I believe that there will be no diversion of materials, and this is very important. I have seen elections before; I’ve been in this game for a long time since 1998, and I want to say that I’m always very, very sure of what I say.
“I believe so much in our people. The fact that they are good, they are resilient, and they know what is right, and if you are not careful at the appropriate time they will tell you their consequences,” the SGF said.
