Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Yobe State have affirmed Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai as the party’s consensus candidate for Yobe South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The affirmation followed a series of consultations among party leaders, elders, and political stakeholders across the senatorial district, which party loyalists described as part of efforts to sustain unity and cohesion within the APC in the state.
The endorsement exercise took place on Monday at the Federal College of Education Multipurpose Hall, Potiskum Local Government Area, and was conducted by the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Buba Mashio, in the presence of APC chieftains, stakeholders, youth groups, and supporters drawn from various local government areas within the district.
Party officials at the gathering said the decision to adopt Bomai as the consensus candidate was reached after extensive consultations aimed at preventing internal divisions and ensuring a smooth political process ahead of the elections.
It would be recalled that Senator Bomai withdrew from the Yobe governorship race before his eventual emergence as the consensus candidate for the senatorial ticket.
Supporters at the event expressed confidence in the senator’s ability to represent the interests of the district, citing his political experience and contributions to party development in the state.
Addressing party members shortly after his affirmation at the event, Bomai expressed appreciation to party leaders and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, while pledging continued dedication to the service of the district.
“I want to sincerely thank our party leaders, elders, stakeholders, and supporters across Yobe South Senatorial District for the support and confidence they have reposed in me,” he said.
“I remain committed to serving our people diligently and ensuring that the interests of Yobe South continue to receive the attention they deserve.”
The senator also commended fellow aspirants and party loyalists for embracing peace and unity throughout the consultation process, noting that their conduct demonstrated loyalty to the APC and its leadership.
According to him, the ability of party members to place collective interest above personal ambition would further strengthen the APC’s chances in future elections.
“I also commend all party faithful and aspirants who embraced unity and worked towards ensuring harmony within our great party. Their loyalty and commitment to the APC are highly commendable,” Bomai stated.
He urged stakeholders and supporters across the district to remain united and work collectively toward achieving electoral victory for the party.
“I call on all stakeholders and supporters to remain united and continue to work together as one political family as we prepare for the forthcoming general elections,” he added.
Political analysts in the state said Bomai’s emergence as the consensus candidate may reduce internal disputes within the APC in Yobe South, which has remained one of the party’s strongholds over the years.
If re-elected in the forthcoming general elections, Bomai would return to the National Assembly for a third term, a development that would make history in Yobe South Senatorial District, where no senator has previously served three consecutive terms.
The development is also expected to shape political alignments within the state as parties intensify preparations for the elections.
