Some incumbent members of the House of Representatives on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have lost their bids to secure re-election tickets in party primaries held on Saturday.
PUNCH Online reports that primary election results were announced for several constituencies across states on Sunday.
While many federal lawmakers and aspirants secured tickets, results available so far show that some serving members lost to other aspirants.
Benue
In Benue State, six APC House of Representatives members, mostly described as loyalists of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, failed to retain their nominations.
They lost to candidates believed to be aligned with Governor Hyacinth Alia.
The defeated lawmakers include Austin Achado (Gwer East/Gwer West), who polled 729 votes against winner David Nongo’s 17,429 votes.
David Ogewu (Oju/Obi) was defeated by Peter Ogbodo (120 votes to 12,993).
Terseer Ugbor (Kwande/Ushongo) also lost his ticket.
Sekav Iyortyom (Buruku) scored 1,396 votes against Gideon Inyom’s 10,470 votes.
Dickson Tarkighir (Makurdi/Guma) managed 1,746 votes, while Christopher Ikper polled 37,844 votes to emerge winner.
Nasarawa
In Nasarawa State, two sitting House of Representatives members lost their re-election bids during Saturday’s primaries.
Two-term member Ari Abdulmumin Muhammad (Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency, 2015–2023) was defeated by Mohammed Al-Bashir Babae Yarima, who polled 31,796 votes to Muhammad’s 9,039 votes.
One-term incumbent Jeremia Umaru (Akwanga/Wamba/Nasarawa Eggon) placed second with 4,061 votes, losing to Tony Bala Shammah, who scored 38,333 votes.
Plateau
In Plateau State, Yusuf Gagdi, representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Navy, failed to secure a third-term ticket.
Gagdi polled 5,849 votes and lost to Dr. John Tongshinen, who garnered 29,968 votes in the direct primary.
The result was declared at the constituency headquarters in Pankshin on Sunday.
Edo
In Edo State, another serving lawmaker, Eseosa Iyawe, lost the APC ticket for Oredo Federal Constituency to former Commissioner for Education, Dr Paddy Iyamu.
Iyawe was elected into the House of Representatives on the platform of the Labour Party before defecting to the APC.
Imo
In Imo State, incumbent House of Representatives members denied return tickets include Miriam Onuoha (Okigwe South), Harrison Nwadike (Isu/Njaba/Nkwerre/Nwangele), and Emeka Martins Chinedu (Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Federal Constituency).
Kwara
Also affected was Ismail Kayode, incumbent representative for Ifelodun/Oyun/Offa Federal Constituency in Kwara State, who lost to Rafiu Ajakaye, former Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Kebbi
In Kebbi State, incumbent lawmaker Mansur Musa Jega lost the APC ticket for Jega/Gwandu/Aleiro Federal Constituency following a consensus arrangement that produced former Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Jafar Ahmed Jega.
Jigawa
Similarly, four serving lawmakers in Jigawa State lost their return tickets during the primaries.
They are Muktar Muhammad (Kazaure/Roni/Gwiwa/Yankwashi), Ibrahim Usman Auyo (Hadejia/Auyo/Kafin Hausa), Sa’adu Wada Taura (Ringim/Taura), and Yusif Sa’idu Miga (Jahun/Miga).
Delta
The primaries also produced a major upset in Delta State, where longtime federal lawmaker Nicholas Mutu failed to secure the APC ticket for Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency.
Mutu, who has represented the constituency in the House of Representatives since 1999, lost the party’s ticket to Basil Okolobaowei Ganagana, who emerged as APC flagbearer ahead of the 2027 general elections.
