Super Eagles winger Nathan Tella is a doubt for Bayer Leverkusen’s final Bundesliga fixture against Hamburg on Saturday after picking up a muscle injury, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
It has been a difficult season for the 26-year-old, who has battled a string of knee, foot and muscular problems that forced him to miss 17 matches.
However, Tella appeared to have turned a corner after returning to fitness in late March, contributing two assists and a goal in his last two outings against RB Leipzig and FC Köln before his latest setback.
His absence was felt sharply in Leverkusen’s 3-1 defeat to Stuttgart, and according to Kicker, he remains a doubt for the season finale at the BayArena.
The injury is also a concern for Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, who had been monitoring Tella’s resurgent form ahead of Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies against Poland and Portugal in June.
His ability to create and convert chances, combined with his high work rate, had placed him firmly in contention for a squad place.
His availability for the Hamburg clash remains uncertain, and Nigerian fans and the national team coaching staff will be hoping he recovers in time to be considered for the friendlies.
