The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has said it has deployed over 1,000 electoral officials across the state’s 305 wards as it conducts its primary elections to produce candidates for the upcoming polls.
The party also confirmed the arrival of its monitoring and appeal committees in the state to oversee the process and handle complaints arising from the exercise.
Spokesperson of the Imo APC, Dr Jones Onwuasoanya, said on Saturday that the primaries were already underway across ward collation centres in the state.
“The primary election for the election of ten standard bearers of our great Party is underway across the 305 political ward collation centres in the State,” he said.
He explained that the exercise is being conducted under the party’s adopted direct primaries method and in line with constitutional and electoral guidelines guiding internal party elections.
According to him, “To ensure a hitch-free, credible and transparent primary election across these constituencies, the Party has deployed over 1000 electoral officials from within its ranks to conduct the elections under the supervision of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission. Adequate security measures have also been put in place to ensure the safety of all Party members and officials who are involved in the primary election process.”
Onwuasoanya added that the House of Representatives Primary Election Committee, led by Rear Admiral Williams Kayode as chairman, and the Appeal Committee, headed by Engr. Tuoyo Omatsuli were already on ground supervising proceedings alongside the state party leadership.
He said the party remains committed to ensuring a transparent process in which “the votes of all Party members shall count,” while urging aspirants and stakeholders to maintain order and cooperate with officials.
The primaries are part of the APC’s internal preparations ahead of forthcoming elections, as parties intensify candidate selection processes across the country.
