The lawmaker representing Awe/Doma/Keana Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abubakar Nalaraba, has jettisoned his 2027 governorship ambition and declared his full support for Governor Abdullahi Sule’s preferred aspirant, Senator Ahmed Wadada.
The federal lawmaker had earlier indicated interest in vying for the governorship seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. However, he has decided to withdraw from the race in solidarity with Wadada.
Our correspondent reports that, instead of continuing with his governorship ambition, Nalaraba has purchased the nomination and expression of interest forms to contest the Nasarawa South Senatorial District seat.
Speaking with journalists on Monday in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, the lawmaker explained that his decision followed due consultations with critical stakeholders, party leaders, his constituents, and respected elders across the state.
According to Nalaraba, his decision to step down from the governorship race was not borne out of fear, weakness, or lack of capacity, but was guided by wisdom, political maturity, loyalty, and a sincere commitment to preserving the unity, peace, stability, and collective progress of the APC and the state.
He said, “At critical moments of political consideration, sacrifice and the collective interest of the state must prevail over personal ambition. As a loyal party member, I align myself totally with the decision of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule has endorsed Distinguished Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as his preferred candidate for the governorship ticket of our great party.
“I wish to make it clear that this decision is consistent with my position, which I have maintained at several stakeholders’ meetings across the state. At those engagements, I stated without reservation that I would support whatever decision our leader, His Excellency, the Governor of the state, considers appropriate in determining the party’s direction.
“I gave my word, and I stand by it, and today, I honour that commitment in full. Politics must never be reduced to a contest of personal interest alone. It must always remain a platform for sacrifice, loyalty, understanding, and collective advancement.
“It is in the same spirit that I have decided to align. In this regard, I hereby declare my total and unwavering support for the candidacy of Distinguished Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada. I will deploy my entire political structure, mobilise my supporters across the wards and LGAs, and commit the necessary resources to ensure his success at both the primary and general elections.”
Speaking on his senatorial ambition for Nasarawa South, Nalaraba said he had listened carefully to the voices of his people and appeals from stakeholders across the zone, and had therefore decided to join the contest.
“To this collective call, and having consulted widely with critical stakeholders, party stalwarts, and our teeming supporters, I have resolved to offer myself for service by contesting for the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to represent Nasarawa South Senatorial District.
“This decision reflects my continued commitment to serve, represent, and advance the cause of our people at a higher legislative level,” he said.
He noted that in accepting the responsibility to contest for the Senate, he is fully aware that the task ahead is demanding, adding that “The stakes are high, and the challenges are quite daunting.”
However, Nalaraba expressed confidence that, with shared commitment and collective effort, he and his supporters would overcome the challenges, achieve their objectives, and secure victory in the 2027 senatorial election.
