The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has confirmed that two of its staff members abducted in Ogun State remain in captivity six days after the incident.
The company disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Ibadan, expressing deep concern over the fate of the employees who were reportedly kidnapped while on official duty.
IBEDC said efforts were ongoing to secure their safe release, adding that it was working closely with security agencies.
The statement read, “Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc confirms that two of its staff members in the Ogun region were abducted on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
“We are deeply concerned about this situation, and our thoughts are with our colleagues and their families at this difficult time.
“IBEDC is working closely with relevant security agencies to ensure their safe return. We are also in active engagement with their families, providing the necessary support.”
The company, however, noted that it could not provide further details due to the sensitive nature of the incident.
“Given the ongoing efforts to resolve the situation, we request understanding and restraint as we prioritise the safety and well-being of those involved,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command, where the abduction purportedly occurred, has denied reports of the incident happening in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, denied knowledge of the incident.
He told PUNCH Metro via a phone call that no such abduction was reported in the state, adding that the command had received multiple enquiries on the matter.
“No such incident happened in Ogun State. It did not happen in Ogun State. A lot of reporters have called on that issue, but it’s not in Ogun State.
“You can check neighbouring states, but not in Ogun State. There is nothing to respond to; nothing of such happened in Ogun State.”
