No fewer than 30,000 music lovers on Sunday converged at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos, for the Mainland Block Party, a May Day celebration that featured top Afrobeats artistes and emerging performers.
The event drew attendees from across the state and neighbouring areas, creating a carnival-like atmosphere filled with music, dance, and street-style entertainment.
Headlining the show, Seyi Vibez delivered what many fans described as an “arousing performance” that set the tone for the night, as fans sang along to his popular songs and cheered loudly throughout his set.
Other artistes who performed at the event included Small Doctor, Shoday, Muyeez, Kayode, and Boy Muller, among others, who entertained the crowd with energetic stage performances.
Our correspondent, who monitored the event, observed that security personnel and event organisers maintained order as the large crowd filled the venue to capacity.
Seyi Vibez’s performance was widely regarded as the highlight of the show, as he engaged the audience with a mix of street anthems and emotionally driven tracks, prompting loud reactions from fans.
Small Doctor also drew significant attention with his performance, as attendees danced and chorused his songs, reflecting his continued popularity among street-hop enthusiasts.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, a fan, Tunde Ajayi, said the concert met his expectations, noting that the lineup of artistes contributed to the large turnout.
“This is a massive event. The turnout alone shows how much people love these artistes. Seyi Vibez was exceptional, and the energy from the crowd was impressive,” he said.
Another attendee, Chioma Eze, described the event as well-organised, adding that the performances were worth the time and cost of attendance.
“I enjoyed every moment. From the upcoming artistes to the big names, everyone brought their best. It was a good way to celebrate May Day,” she stated.
Also speaking, Ibrahim Lawal said he travelled from Ikorodu to attend the show, noting that events like the Mainland Block Party were becoming increasingly popular among youths.
The Mainland Block Party is regarded as one of the fastest-growing entertainment gatherings in Lagos, providing a platform for both established and emerging Afrobeats artists to showcase their talents.
