The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed the death of three persons in a fatal crash along the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway.
PUNCH Metro learnt from a statement by the spokesperson for the command, Afolabi Odunsi, that the accident occurred on Sunday at about 1:04 pm in the Oniworo area of the busy highway.
According to Odunsi, the crash involved a blue Lexus Jeep and an unregistered black Boxer motorcycle.
He noted that a total of eight persons, all male adults, were involved in the accident, adding that one person sustained injuries, while three others lost their lives in the crash.
He stated in part, “The incident took place at approximately 13:04 hrs in the Oniworo area. Vehicles involved were a blue Lexus Jeep, a black Boxer bike.
“Eight male adults were involved; one sustained injuries, while three were killed. The suspected causes were speed violation and tyre burst.”
He noted that the FRSC rescue team from the Ogunmakin Unit Command reportedly arrived at the scene within five minutes of receiving the distress call.
Odunsi said that the injured victim was immediately taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the FOS Morgue in Ipara.
“The FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene within five minutes of receiving the call and carried out necessary rescue operations.
“The injured victim was rushed to Victory Hospital, Ogere, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at the FOS Morgue, Ipara.”
Reacting to the incident, the FRSC Ogun Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, commiserated with the families of the deceased victims.
He also urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and ensure their tyres are in good condition to prevent avoidable crashes.
PUNCH Metro reported on August 8 that a driver lost his life while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries after a Toyota Highlander rammed into a truck at the Lifemate axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Head of Media and Publicity of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, had noted that the accident involved a white Toyota Highlander Jeep with number plate ABC 836 EF and a DAF truck with number plate DTF 997 XA.
