Valencia forward, Umar Sadiq, says he is excited about Ademola Lookman’s switch to La Liga with Atletico Madrid, taking the number of Super Eagles players in the Spanish topflight to four, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Lookman has been in the headlines since the start of the month following his €35m plus €5m add-ons move to Atletico Madrid and he followed it up with an impressive debut.
Sadiq, who also completed a game-time-seeking switch from Real Sociedad to Valencia in January, mentioned that it is a good thing to have another Nigerian attacker in the Spanish La Liga.
Lookman scored a goal and set up another in his first appearance for Los Rojiblancos, and was primed for his La Liga debut against the same opponents at the Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday.
Sadiq has scored two goals since joining Carlos Corberan’s side in a €3m deal, and has expressed his delight at having another Nigerian attacker in the league.
“I’m glad to see him coming to La Liga because this is probably the best league in the world,” the former Rangers striker said in an interview with Sporty TV.
“You know, the best league needs the best players, and Ademola Lookman is one of the best players right now.
“It’s time for La Liga to know who he is, and the world also will confirm who he is, and I wish him all the best. I’ll see him soon,” the 29-year-old concluded.
Ademola Lookman (Atletico Madrid), Sevilla duo Chidera Ejuke and Akor Adams, as well as Sadiq (Valencia), are the four Nigerian players in the Spanish topflight.
