Kebbi State Police Command, in a joint operation with the military and other security agencies, has foiled a cattle-rustling attack by suspected Lakurawa bandits in Bunza Local Government Area of the state, neutralising one of the suspects.
The bandits were said to have invaded Tungan Babu Lada village, where they shot dead a 35-year-old man, Usman Ferungu, before making away with some cattle.
Their escape was cut short following the swift response of a joint security team that launched a pursuit shortly after the attack.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer of Kangiwa Division tracked the fleeing suspects and intercepted them at Garin Mayo Mine.
According to the statement, a gun battle ensued during the operation, resulting in the neutralisation of one of the suspected bandits, while four motorcycles believed to have been used by the criminals were recovered.
Police authorities said the operation disrupted the activities of the gang, prevented further attacks and averted additional loss of lives.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring public safety, noting that aggressive patrols and intelligence-driven operations would continue across the state in line with the proactive policing strategy of the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Mohammed Hadeija.
Residents were urged to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information, as the police assured sustained efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of action in Kebbi State.
