Nigeria’s investigative journalist, David Hundeyin, has said that the United States has achieved its long-desired military base in Nigeria.
Hundeyin disclosed this in a post on his X account on Saturday, reacting to a statement by a US lawmaker representing West Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District.
The lawmaker, Moore, had issued a clarification over claims that he was driving a US move to clandestinely divide Nigeria based on allegations of “Christian genocide” in the country.
According to Moore, he reiterated his commitment to saving Christians in Nigeria.
He added that “the US and Nigeria have just entered into a security cooperation agreement, and that is an important step in tackling the violence in Nigeria.”
Reacting to Moore’s statement, Hundeyin said the lawmaker’s remarks validated his position that the US had achieved what it wanted from the Nigerian government.
“The last paragraph is the real point of the five paragraphs of waffle.
“They have finally got their long-desired US military base in Nigeria, so job done,” he wrote on X.

DAILY POST reports that Dagvin Anderson, head of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), has confirmed that US troops have been deployed to Nigeria.
In a clarification, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, said US troops in Nigeria are not combatants.
DAILY POST also reports that US–Nigeria relations had nosedived after US President Donald Trump, in October 2025, designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern.
In December last year, Trump announced that the US military carried out a strike on a terrorist enclave in Sokoto, Northwest Nigeria.
Meanwhile, US–Nigeria relations have strengthened in recent weeks after both countries secured military collaboration and partnership.
