Dr Awolola Felicia Olabisi, has been appointed as the Acting Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.
The appointment followed the directive of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq asking the previous rector, Abdul Jimoh Mohamed, to immediately step aside pending investigation into recent student protests over the temporary relocation of the NYSC orientation camp at Yikpata, Edu local government to the permanent site of the polytechnic in Ilorin.
Dr Olabisi, a distinguished academic and administrator, is expected to take charge immediately, bringing her wealth of experience and visionary leadership to the institution during this critical period.
The acting rector is tasked with ensuring seamless academic operations, engaging stakeholders, and fostering a safe and productive environment for both students and staff.
Gov AbdulRazaq, recently set up a three-man committee to probe the remote and immediate causes of the Kwara Poly students protest, and directed the rector to step down pending investigation.
DAILY POST findings revealed that the troubled rector, allegedly impersonated the governor by claiming that the polytechnic was shut down on the order of the governor following the students protest.
The committee is headed by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ibrahim Sulyman, with the Commissioner for Environment, Nafisat Buge and the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare, Dr Mrs Mercy Olufunke Shittu as members.
The committee has two weeks to submit its report to the governor, while their terms of reference include among others, to dig into the remote and immediate causes of the protest and handling of same, recommend ways to prevent such things in the future and make further recommendations on the growth of the school.
The committee will engage with all relevant stakeholders on its assignment, a statement by Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, Commissioner for Tertiary Education, said.
