The Berom Youths Moulder-Association, BYM, has confirmed another deadly attack by gunmen suspected to be Fulani militia, who laid siege to the Rapyam community in Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on Friday, February 6, 2026.
The attackers killed one resident identified as Emmanuel Matthew, while scores of others were injured and properties burnt by the terrorists.
National Publicity Secretary of BYM, Rwang Tengwong, who confirmed the attack in a statement on Saturday, said information gathered from some residents of the community indicated that the heavily armed terrorists invaded the village from the Werre-Lugere and Mahanga axis of the district at about 1:00am, and unleashed terror on the innocent residents.
Tengwong expressed regret that the attack took place despite a prior security alert which was transmitted to security operatives in the area about potential attacks which listed several communities including Rapyam.
“This tragic incident occurred despite a prior security alert issued at about 8:58pm on February 5, 2026, which listed several communities in Fan District and parts of Vom in Jos South LGA as potential targets,” Tengwong said.
He stressed that the BYM was deeply concerned about the continued failure of security operatives to act promptly on credible intelligence, leading to avoidable loss of lives.
“BYM strongly calls on the Federal and Plateau State Governments, Operation Enduring Peace, the Police, DSS, and other security agencies to urgently deploy adequate forces, intensify patrols, and adopt proactive measures to protect lives and property across Plateau State.
“The Association extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Emmanuel Matthew, the people of Rapyam, and the entire Fan District, while demanding justice for all victims of these unprovoked attacks,” the BYM spokesman added.
