The Gombe State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of a 37-year-old tenant, Bello Abubakar, in connection with the alleged killing of a 38-year-old woman, Maryam Hassan, in the Kundulun Quarters of Gombe metropolis.
Maryam was reportedly found lying in front of her residence in the early hours of Tuesday with severe head injuries.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Buhari Abdullahi, the incident was reported at about 6:00 a.m. by a good Samaritan.
“The Gombe State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that on 03/02/2026 at about 0600hrs, a report was received from a Good Samaritan that a woman identified as Maryam Hassan, 38 years, of Kundulun Quarters, was found lying motionless in a pool of blood with a severe head injury in front of her residence,” Abdullahi said.
He explained that detectives from the Gombe Division promptly visited the scene and evacuated the victim to a hospital, where she was certified dead by medical personnel.
Abdullahi stated that preliminary investigations led to the arrest of the suspect, who resides in the same compound as the deceased.
Items recovered during the investigation include a pestle, a stool, a bucket, a shirt suspected to be stained with blood, and a Redmi 15C mobile phone said to belong to the deceased, which was allegedly found in the suspect’s possession.
“The suspect later confessed to the crime. The case is under discreet investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), and further developments will be communicated in due course,” the police spokesperson added.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Umar Chuso, assured residents that the command would pursue justice diligently.
