The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has arrested a truck driver whose vehicle collided with a commercial bus, injuring three passengers at the Mosafejo–Aradagun area of the Lagos–Badagry Expressway.
PUNCH Metro learnt on Tuesday that the crash occurred when the driver of the articulated truck attempted to make an illegal U-turn at an unauthorised point on the expressway.
In a statement, the spokesperson for LASTMA, Mr Adebayo Taofiq, said the truck rammed into an oncoming commercial Mazda bus, registration number FST 946 YK, during the manoeuvre.
He said, “The Lagos State Government has received with deep concern reports of a serious road traffic collision at Mosafejo–Aradagun, along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, involving a Dangote articulated truck and a commercial Mazda bus.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the truck driver, while attempting to execute an illegal U-turn, collided head-on with the oncoming commercial bus.”
Taofiq added that the impact left three male passengers with severe injuries, while the truck driver was immediately apprehended by LASTMA operatives at the scene.
“Through a swift and coordinated emergency response, the injured victims were rescued and promptly conveyed to a General Hospital by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps for urgent medical attention,” he said.
Reacting to the incident, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr Sola Giwa, wished the injured passengers a speedy recovery.
He warned truck drivers and operators of heavy-duty vehicles to exercise caution and comply strictly with traffic regulations while using Lagos roads.
“Reckless driving practices, including illegal U-turns, pose a grave threat to public safety and will not be tolerated under the state’s traffic management regime,” Giwa said.
He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property through proactive enforcement, strategic traffic control measures and sustained public enlightenment.
