The Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State, has sentenced the Managing Director of Builderstech Solution Ltd, Agene Johnson Godwin, to 48 years’ imprisonment for his role in a large-scale investment scam.
Justice M.S. Abubakar handed down the sentence after finding Godwin guilty on an amended eight-count charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The court heard that the convict defrauded more than 5,000 unsuspecting investors of over N500 million through fraudulent investment schemes operated under Builderstech Solution Ltd.
Godwin was found to have collected funds from members of the public under false pretences, promising high and unrealistic returns on investment.
Following his conviction, Justice Abubakar sentenced the defendant to a cumulative 48 years in prison without the option of a fine, stressing the gravity of the offences and the scale of the fraud perpetrated against victims.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to protecting the public from financial crimes and urged Nigerians to exercise caution when investing, especially in schemes that promise unusually high returns.
