Access Bank Plc, the commercial banking division of financial services group Access Holdings, has appointed Ifeyinwa Osime as the chair of its board of directors.
Mrs Osime’s appointment followed the retirement of Paul Usoro, who exited the company on 29 January on completion of his regulatory tenure limit, Access Holdings stated in a filing at the Nigerian Exchange on Tuesday.
“Mrs Osime is a principled and experienced leader with a deep understanding of the bank’s strategy and values,” Access Holdings chairman, Aigboje Aig-Imhoukhuede, said.
“She has demonstrated strong commitment to the bank’s vision and mission, and I am confident that, under her leadership, the bank will continue to advance its strategic objectives of delivering sustainable value to shareholders and other stakeholders in the pursuit of its vision to become the world’s most respected African bank,” he added.
A legal practitioner with ample experience in corporate governance and strategic leadership, Mrs Osime joined the board of Access Bank in November 2019 as an independent non-executive director.
Before the appointment, she was the chairperson of the Board Human Resources and Sustainability Committee and the Board Governance Nomination and Remuneration Committee. She is a director at Ebudo Trust Limited and a partner at McPherson Legal Practitioners, where she advises on corporate and commercial legal matters. She was formerly an independent non-executive director of Coronation Insurance Plc, chairperson of the directors’ board of Coronation Life Insurance Company Limited and a non-executive director of the defunct Bank PHB (now Keystone Bank).

Mrs Osime’s career commenced at Nigeria Reinsurance Corporation, after which she joined African Development Insurance Company Limited (now NSIA Insurance) as company secretary/assistant general manager, administration & legal.
She is a graduate of law from the University of Benin, Benin City and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1987. She is a holder of a Master of Laws degree in Commercial and Private Law from the London School of Economics. Mrs Osime has attended executive education programmes at INSEAD, IMD Business School, Harvard Business School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford.
She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Women Corporate Directors Nigeria Chapter, and the Chartered Institute of Directors Nigeria.
