The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said the ruling party remains open to welcoming the former presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, Rabi’u Kwankwaso.
Yilwatda made the remark amid recent political realignments and speculations in Kano State politics, which have also drawn reactions from Kwankwaso.
Recall that the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, recently defected from the NNPP to the APC, alongside members of the State House of Assembly and House of Representatives.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV on Sunday, the APC chairman said that although the party is not currently in talks with the former Kano governor, he would be warmly received if he chose to join the APC.
“Our doors are still open for Kwankwaso to join the APC. If he comes, he’s most welcome. Though we are not yet in negotiation with him,” Yilwatda said.
He also used the opportunity to defend President Bola Tinubu’s frequent foreign trips, arguing that the President’s experience, exposure and international networks enable him to achieve significant results within a short period.
“Because of his experience, exposure and connections, what he can connect in one day will take most of us years to gain and achieve,” he said.
Yilwatda described the President’s travels as sacrifices made in the national interest, noting that Tinubu embarks on such trips to attract foreign investments, negotiate bilateral agreements and address security-related concerns.
“For this man to sacrifice for this country, to move around, attract investment, work on security and negotiate bilateral agreements, should we take that for granted?” he asked.
