Nigerian high jumper Temitope Adeshina equalled the national record after clearing 1.97m to win the women’s high jump at the Razorback Invitational on Friday.
Adeshina’s winning height secured first place ahead of Ghana’s Rose Yeboah, who finished second with a best clearance of 1.94m, in a strong field.
The 1.97m clearance matches Adeshina’s personal best and the Nigerian national record, marking the third time she has reached the height in competition.
She first cleared 1.97m at the NCAA Championships in June 2024, before equalling the mark again at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships last season to qualify for the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
The Razorback Invitational performance came two weeks after Adeshina opened her 2026 campaign with a win at the Corky Classics, where she cleared 1.93m to post a season’s best and finish well clear of the field.
The Texas Tech University athlete also produced close attempts at 2.00m at the Razorback Invitational, narrowly missing out on setting a new national record.
Her original 1.97m jump in 2024 made her the first Nigerian woman to clear the height, breaking the long-standing national record previously held by Doreen Amata, and securing qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The performance underlines Adeshina’s growing consistency at the elite level and strengthens her profile as a major medal contender for Nigeria at upcoming continental and global championships.
