All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Imo State chapter, has alleged that Governor Hope Uzodinma-led All Progressives Congress, Government in the State is forcing civil servants to register in the ongoing e-registration exercise.
APGA maintained that such action was not obtainable in any constitutional democracy as it is a direct affront on citizens’ right to freedom.
The party made the allegation through its State Chairman, John Iwuala, who in a press statement noted that the development has caused so much frustration to the civil servants and other citizens.
Iwuala, who maintained that APGA is known to be a party that projects and defends Igbo social, political and economic interests, advised the Governor to allow Imo workers to uphold laid down civil service rules which prohibit them from engaging in partisan politics.
“As a matter of fact, it is never done in any sane society, as no one forces any individual to join a particular political party in a democratic society.
“We encourage Imo citizens, never to support the one party system.
“Civil Servants do not play partisan politics in any sane clime. Imo State Government is very wrong to mandate any Civil Servant to register in any political party.
“It is unacceptable and provocative. It is also a gross violation of peoples’ fundamental human rights,” he stated.
The APGA State Chairman asserted that the 2027 election is the time the Imo electorate should stand strong to right the wrongs, insisting that no one should be intimidated in any way, or forced to belong to APC or any political party.
“If APC is really doing well under Uzodinma, the scorecard is what will encourage the citizens to vote for his party, come 2027.
“But if the Government is undemocratic and insensitive to the lives and property of the citizens, the Imo electorate has no option than to vote APC out.
“The present Imo Government should have a rethink”, the party cautioned.
