Christian leaders in Southern Kaduna have urged the state government, security agencies, and local communities to take proactive action to protect worship centres against the incessant attacks and abduction of worshippers in parts of the country.
The Christian leaders also urged government to without any delay secure the release of abducted worshippers of Kurmin Wali and others, warning of the growing trauma the affected families are presently going through.
Apostle Dr. Emmanuel Nuhu Kure, Chairman of Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders, made the call during the 2026 Southern Kaduna Prayer Summit held at the Kafanchan New Township Stadium under the theme “Worship His Majesty.”
He described the gathering not only as a spiritual exercise but also as a platform to appeal for swift government intervention on many people that have been abducted and are in different places in the bush suffering.
He expressed concern over the lack of visible action weeks after the recent mass abduction of Christian worshippers in Kurmin Wali, calling on government and security personnel to do the needful towards releasing the victims.
According to Kure, “It has been almost two weeks, and nobody has been released. In other cases, early government intervention often leads to quick release of victims, but here, nothing has been done to ensure the release of the kidnapped people.”
While thanking God that no deaths have been confirmed among the abducted worshippers, he noted the trauma suffered by families and loved ones.
Addressing the issue of ransom, Kure stressed that rural communities and farmers could not meet the steep demands, saying that there is no farmer in Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara, or Sokoto who can raise N50 million or N80 million in the present economic climate as the ransom demands are destroying the rural communities.
The cleric urged the state government to honor previous assurances of action, pointing out that delays only worsen the plight of victims and erode public confidence in security institutions.
Similarly, member of the House of Representatives for Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency, Daniel Amos, urged Christians and religious leaders in Southern Kaduna to intensify prayers for Nigeria’s peace, stability, and development, especially as the country approaches another election year.
He spoke on behalf of the Southern Kaduna politician shortly after a special prayer conducted in their instance.
