The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the party’s South-South Vice Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, has lauded Friday’s Federal High Court ruling that nullified the party’s recently held National Convention.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the state chairman of the faction, Nosakhare Ogieva-Okunbor, said the judgment marked a new dawn for unity and progress within the party.
He called on party members to support Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary of the PDP.
The statement read in part: “This ruling provides much-needed clarity and judicial endorsement, reinforcing the principles of internal order, constitutional due process, and unity within our great party.
“It represents a timely and decisive intervention that strengthens our foundation, restores confidence among members, and enhances our collective capacity to rebuild and reposition for future victories.
“We extend our warm congratulations to Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed on this well-deserved affirmation of his leadership. His steady hand, commitment to broad-based reconciliation, and focused efforts to rebuild party structures nationwide have earned him the trust and respect of members across all zones.
“Similarly, the confirmation of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary solidifies the administrative framework necessary for effective coordination and renewed organisational vigour.
“At this pivotal moment, we call on all members, supporters, and stakeholders of the PDP to unite behind the affirmed National Caretaker Committee. Unity of purpose is indispensable to our mission of repositioning the party, strengthening internal democracy, and restoring our widespread national appeal.
“This judgment opens a new chapter of collective renewal. We urge every committed member to embrace this opportunity, uphold party discipline, and work collaboratively for the greater good of the PDP.”
The PUNCH reported that the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan on Friday nullified the Peoples Democratic Party National Convention held on November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The court also barred Kabiru Turaki and others from presenting themselves as national officers of the party, dealing a significant blow to the faction that emerged from the convention.
Despite internal disputes within the party, the PDP had gone ahead with its highly anticipated two-day 2025 Elective National Convention at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan. Tagged #Ibadan2025, the convention attracted thousands of party delegates, leaders, and supporters.
The court’s decision follows ongoing leadership disputes within the PDP, which have resulted in competing factions and legal battles over the party’s national leadership and internal processes.
