Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps, ESSC, have arrested one Joshua Philip, who is allegedly specialising in the theft of hotel facilities.
DAILY POST reports that the Deputy Corps Commandant, Richard Balogun, disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday, January 29, 2026, in Benin City.
Balogun alleged that the suspect, who resides in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, specialised in stealing hotel equipment while checking out after lodging.
It was gathered that the suspect, who moves around the country for the criminal act, had allegedly committed the offence at four hotels in Benin City before his arrest.
The suspect was said to have been arrested at a hotel in Aduwawa, Benin City, where he allegedly stole a television set and other items.
He was alleged to have escaped with the stolen items after checking out without informing hotel personnel on duty.
He was also alleged to have been lodging in hotels using fake names, addresses, and phone numbers.
It was, however, gathered that the suspect was arrested when the manager of the hotel in Aduwawa spotted him somewhere in Benin City as one of their guests who had stolen items from a hotel room.
The manager was said to have contacted operatives of the Edo State Security Corps, who were on routine patrol.
Balogun said the suspect would be handed over to the police.
