The Nigerian Army has rescued a kidnapped man in Taraba State following sustained search-and-rescue operations.
This was disclosed by commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brig.-Gen. Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa.
Uwa, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Jalingo, urged members of the public to continue supporting the ongoing military operations by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
According to the statement, troops deployed to Dogon-Gawa in Takum Local Government Area rescued the victim on Jan. 27, 2026, after intensive and aggressive operations within the brigade’s area of responsibility.
“Troops conducting ongoing search-and-rescue operations sighted and rescued a man who had been abandoned in the bush by his captors. The victim was later identified as Mr. Ghali,” the commander said.
He disclosed that further investigations revealed that Mr. Ghali and another victim, Mr. Simon Oluchukwu were abducted on Jan. 11, 2026, at Gbise Village, Mbayonga, in Benue State. Their driver was reportedly killed during the abduction.
Uwa said that following his rescue, Mr. Ghali was debriefed, provided with medical care, and reunited with his family.
Commending the troops for their tenacity, courage and professionalism, the commander assured that operations in the area would be intensified to secure the release of the second victim and arrest those responsible.
The statement signed by the Acting Spokesperson of the Brigade, Lt. Umar Mohammad, said the successful rescue underscores the gallantry and commitment of 6 Brigade troops to the protection of lives and property.
“The Brigade remains resolute in its determination to rid the area of criminal elements and restore lasting peace within the region,” Uwa said.
