The Federal Fire Service, Cross River Command, says properties estimated at over N3 billion were destroyed by fire in the state in 2025.
The State Commanding Officer of the service, Olumayowa Olomola, disclosed this on Wednesday in Calabar in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Mrs Omolola said that the value of destruction was recorded from 18 fire incidents that affected 14 houses across the state.
The commanding officer described the nature of the incidents as including gas explosions, electrical fires, bush fires, and petroleum products.
According to her, these fire incidents led to two deaths while five people sustained various degrees of injuries.
Mrs Omolola said the command was doing its best within its limits and appealed for more support in logistics.
According to her, the command is facing challenges due to a shortage of diesel, the unavailability of water tankers, ambulances, and utility vehicles.
She also spoke on the need to open more fire offices within Calabar city and other local government areas of the state.

Meanwhile, early this month, an angry mob in Calabar metropolis had attacked a fire truck belonging to the Federal Fire Service and injured firefighters who responded to a fire incident.
“We hear that they misunderstood us to be from the state fire service, which they accused of delayed response.
“We were called by the Cross River Fire Service to respond. This is after they complained of lacking the capacity to respond,” Mrs Omolola had said, while confirming the attack.
She stated that the firefighters were unable to disembark or extinguish the fire due to the attack.
