The Ogun State Planning Development and Permit Authority has reaffirmed its commitment to maintain orderly development, planned structural compliance and obedience to all building construction rules and regulations.
The General Manager of the Authority, Itunu Jolaoluwa, stated this on Tuesday, while featuring on a live television programme, ‘The Roundtable’, aired on Ogun State Television (OGTV), and monitored by our correspondent.
Jolaoluwa, speaking on the theme ‘Building Right’ stated that all building activities in the state must comply with the basic planning laws and regulations, noting that the state remained guided by its Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law, 2022.
According to her, it also supports regulations designed to ensure safe, sustainable and orderly development across the state.
She reiterated that any form of development without an approved planning permit remained illegal, just as altering approved building plans during construction without authorisation stood as a violation of the law.
The general manager added that erecting structures within road setbacks, rights of way, as well as the construction of shanties along highways and expressways were prohibited.
He disclosed that the state had simplified the planning permit process, saying that approvals for residential developments had been made to be ready within seven days, while commercial permits were simplified to be ready within fourteen days, provided all requirements were provided.
She enjoined residents and developers to always visit the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, the Ogun State Planning Development and Permit Authority or any zonal planning office closest to them to seek guidance on planning procedures and apply for necessary permits before commencing any development.
She, however, warned against attacks on town planning officials in the discharge of their duties, stating that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
