The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun has urged youths to shun all forms of anti-social behavior, reiterating that they remain pivotal to the economic growth, social transformation and democratic stability of the state.
The Governor stated this at the formal opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Batch A, Stream 1, at the Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu.
He explained that his administration, since assumption of office, had deliberately expanded youth-focused investments to position the state as a preferred destination for innovation, enterprise, creativity and decent employment.
The Governor noted that the current administration had intensified efforts to equip young people with skills relevant to the global digital economy, saying over 22,000 youths had been trained in software development, cybersecurity, drone technology, animation, robotics and digital entrepreneurship within the last 20 months.
Recognizing the transformative power of sports and creativity, he stated further that his administration had made significant investments in upgrading sports infrastructure across the state, saying these interventions underscored the unwavering commitment to building a prosperous, inclusive, innovative and youth-driven Ogun State.
“I urge you to uphold the highest standards of discipline, loyalty, dedication, and patriotism. Shun all forms of anti-social behaviour.
“Be diligent, purposeful, innovative, compassionate and committed to excellence. Nigeria needs your ideas, energy and creativity, and Ogun State warmly welcomes your contributions,” he said.
Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Nasamu submitted that some programmes had been selected to instill the values of discipline, patriotism, leadership and selfless service, saying these would be achieved through drills, physical training, meditations, leadership skills, physical trainings and many more.
She revealed that a total of 3,198 corps members were registered comprising 1,314 males and 1,884 females, urging them to embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, which was designed to equip them with relevant vocational skills for self-reliance.
