The youth wing of the All Progressives Congress in the Osun West Senatorial District has inaugurated campaign committees in six local government areas as part of grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.
The mobilisation exercise, which targeted party leaders, youth stakeholders, supporters and non-aligned electorates, was carried out in Isokan, Irewole, Ejigbo, Egbedore, Ayedire and Olaoluwa local government areas.
Electorates in Osun State will go to the polls on August 8 to elect a new governor.
The incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party, is facing the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and the African Democratic Congress candidate, Dr Najeem Salaam, in what political pundits have described as a “battle of political heavyweights.”
A statement made available by the media office of Peter Ogundejii, an APC West Senatorial aspirant in the 2027 poll, and obtained in Osogbo on Saturday, explained that the grassroots mobilisation was organised in conjunction with the office of the APC West Senatorial Youth Leader.
The statement noted that the tour began in Isokan Local Government Area and would extend to the remaining four local government areas in the district.
It read in part, “The tour included the inauguration of Door-to-Door Campaign Committees across visited local governments and prayers for the success of the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).”
Receiving the mobilisation team led by Ogundejii and the APC West Senatorial Youth Leader, Imran Adekunle, at Apomu, the headquarters of Isokan Local Government Area, the council chairman, Michael Odetunde, described the exercise as “timely and strategic.”
He assured that the electorate in the local government would support the APC, while commending the party’s early grassroots mobilisation.
In separate remarks, Ogundejii and Adekunle emphasised the need for unity within the APC to ensure victory in the forthcoming election.
Adekunle explained that Isokan was deliberately chosen as the starting point of the tour “because of its cohesion and strategic importance. APC unity remains non-negotiable as preparations intensify for the 2026 election.”
Addressing party members, Ogundejii described the APC governorship candidate as “credible and people-focused,” urging members to sustain grassroots engagement and take ownership of the campaign.
“I commend the youth leadership for initiating this people-driven mobilisation,” he said.
The statement further read, “The engagements, which also took the entourage to Irewole, Ejigbo, Egbedore, Ayedire and Olaoluwa, ended with renewed commitment, strengthened grassroots coordination and a collective resolve by party youths and stakeholders to work towards the APC’s victory in the 2026 Osun State governorship election.”
There has been an increase in mobilisation activities by political parties fielding candidates in the forthcoming Osun governorship election in recent weeks.
However, the Independent National Electoral Commission has said full political campaigning ahead of the poll will commence on March 11.
