Actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, has spoken out after weeks of online speculation and unverified rumours surrounding her marriage to politician and businessman, Odianosen Okojie.
The actress became a trending topic in December after controversial claims circulated on social media and gossip blogs, alleging marital infidelity and personal conflicts within her family.
While the rumours gained traction online, Johnson largely stayed silent, instead sharing posts celebrating her family. Many saw a subtle response in a series of loved-up photos she posted with her husband on Instagram, captioned, “No sleep for the wicked.”
The post showed the couple smiling and relaxed. Shortly after, Okojie appeared publicly alongside Johnson in a video shared during their daughter, Angel’s 10th birthday celebration, showing the family laughing and dancing together. The footage helped calm the growing controversy, and the issue appeared to die down.
The situation escalated when a TikTok content creator, Eedie Bliss, repeated some of the viral allegations, prompting Johnson to take legal action for defamation. Bliss was later arrested and detained.
However, after appeals from friends and fans, Johnson confirmed that she and her husband had decided to withdraw the charges. In a video shared on Instagram, she explained that the decision came after appeals from people she and her husband deeply respect. She added that the controversy had begun to interfere with her personal plans and had taken an emotional toll on her family, particularly her children.
“I’m letting this girl go, dropping the case with this girl out of respect for people my husband and I respect and love. I have kids. I have teenagers who are being bullied in school because of the lies people write online. There are parents who tell their children not to let my kids touch their school bags because they say I’m a witch,” Johnson said, fighting back tears.
She issued a stern warning to bloggers and social media users to leave her family out of online narratives:
“Please, I just need my name, my husband’s name, out of your mouth. This is off for now, but every other person who has alleged must prove it. Going forward, I’m not going to listen to anybody. I will let the law take its full course. False narratives and propaganda cannot define who I am.”
Johnson also alleged that some of the false stories circulating online were deliberately planted.
“You don’t know that bloggers are paid, actresses own some of these blogs, colleagues own these blogs. They can be paid to say whatever they want. When I got married, I didn’t sign any NDA with anybody. I got into my marriage alone, and I have no business with anybody. I have always been in my lane. My priorities are my husband and my kids. I need no validation from anyone. I know who I am.”
