The Executive Chairman of Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Peter Dogara, on Thursday commenced the disbursement of West African Examinations Council examination fees amounting to over ₦10 million, benefiting more than 250 secondary school students across the council area.
The official launch of the initiative took place at Government Secondary School, Takau.
Dogara described the intervention as part of his administration’s deliberate effort to remove financial barriers to education and promote equal opportunities for students from low-income families.
He said education remained a top priority of his administration, stressing that no child should be denied the right to sit for critical examinations due to lack of funds.
“Education remains our strongest investment. This support is meant to encourage our students to remain focused on their studies and to reassure parents that this administration is fully committed to securing the future of their children,” he said.
He added that the initiative was designed to ease the burden on parents, particularly amid prevailing economic challenges, while also motivating students to take their academic pursuits seriously.
Following the launch, shortlisted beneficiaries were subjected to a screening and verification process to ensure transparency and fairness, after which the payment of their WAEC examination fees commenced.
The event attracted a wide range of dignitaries and stakeholders, including the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Yunana Barde; Secretary of the Kaduna State Contributory Health Management Authority (KACHMA), Barr. Ezekiel Dyagas, Hon. Sambo Maigari, and Alhaji Ali Fada, alongside representatives of various political parties.
The WAEC fee disbursement forms part of Dogara’s broader human capital development strategy aimed at improving access to quality education at the grassroots, in line with the SUSTAIN agenda of Governor Uba Sani’s administration.
