The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended Westerfield College for its expansion into the United Kingdom and its efforts to provide Nigerian students with international education opportunities.
According to a statement by Westerfield College on Friday, the governor’s remarks followed a courtesy visit by the Chief Executive Officer of Westerfield College, Michael Dosunmu, and his team.
The visit marked the school’s one-year anniversary as a wholly Nigerian-owned institution operating in the UK.
According to the statement, Sanwo-Olu also praised the educational achievements of Nigerian youths, noting that they had continued to excel globally.
The statement read, “In his remark, Governor Sanwo-Olu hyped on the educational prowess of Nigerian youths who have continued to excel across the world. Finding Westerfield College to open up in the United Kingdom is opening vistas of opportunities for selling Nigeria and Lagos positively to the world.”
Westerfield College became the first wholly African-owned school to establish a UK campus in 2025.
The launch was held at the British High Commissioner’s residence in Lagos, where the Governor commended Dosunmu, an indigene of the state.
The college is participating in the International Education Fair (IEF) and hosting the School Leaders and Teachers Conference (SLTC 2026).
Dosunmu highlighted the institution’s mission, saying, “The Summer Camp Programme is tailored to help Nigerian students build confidence, global awareness, and leadership skills, while giving families a meaningful introduction to the British education system.”
He also reaffirmed the college’s commitment to “strengthening educational linkages between Nigeria and the United Kingdom and supporting the aspirations of young Nigerians through quality international programmes.”
