Suspected armed herdsmen have killed two Community Volunteer Guards in Mbamsorun Iwanev, Mbagwem, of Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State during a recent armed attack on the community.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the victims were identified as Ikpa Bagu and Age Aondowase.
The attack threw the area into panic, with residents fleeing for safety as the gunmen unleashed terror.
During the incident, one person was reportedly abducted but later released unharmed without the payment of ransom, according to community sources.
Residents identified Gbeleve and Amile as major crossing points frequently exploited by criminals to access the area. They urged security agencies to pay urgent attention to the routes, which they described as security flashpoints.
Community members, particularly those residing along the Jato-Aka axis, have been advised to remain vigilant and security-conscious as tensions remain high.
The community has appealed to relevant authorities to urgently intervene by strengthening the security presence to prevent further loss of lives and restore peace to the area.
The spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, could not be reached to confirm the incident, as calls to her mobile telephone were not returned.
