A 17-year-old girl, Iwasen Terhemba, has allegedly sustained serious facial injuries after being attacked with a razor blade in Donga local government council of Taraba State.
The teenager, who resides with her guardian, Jemila Savalla Wanga, was reportedly being persistently approached by a married man identified as Mr. Abbas.
According to sources, the girl repeatedly rejected his advances, stating that she was underage and that he was married.
Reports indicate that the situation escalated after Mr. Abbas’ wife, Ramatu Abbas, was informed that her husband was allegedly involved with the minor. She reportedly responded by insulting and threatening the teenager.
In an effort to address the matter, the guardian was said to have taken the girl to Mrs. Abbas to explain that it was her husband who had been harassing the minor and had allegedly attempted to rape her, urging the woman to caution her husband.
However, the dispute allegedly turned violent when Mrs. Abbas went to the girl’s residence and attacked her with a razor blade, resulting in visible facial injuries.
It was further alleged that the suspect has since threatened the victim and her guardian, warning them not to report the incident to authorities and insisting that the matter be resolved privately.
Speaking to our reporter on phone, the victim’s guardian urged the authorities concern to as a matter of urgency come to her rescue by bringing the perpetrator to book.
The guardian who is demanding for justice for the 17 years whose face has been mutilated with razor blade, also called on the state governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, to come to her aide by assisting the victim with quality medical treatment.
The guardian who told our reporter that the incident occured last saturday barely sone month after the demised of her husband, said,” they are now threatening my life and those of my children.”
“They warned me not to report the case to the police station and that if I do, my children and I will be severely dealt with. I have just lost my husband and I am still mourning him. I want the government to come in and rescue us.
“I have been the one shouldering the hospital bill of the victim. The perpetrator and her accomplice are walking about freely. She has not been arrested and none of them is helping us to cover the medical expenses of my 17 years old daughter who has been in severe pain,” Wanga explained.
Confirming the report, the state police command through its spokesperson, Victor Mshelizah, said, the case file is been compiled and that the case will be charged to court.
Admitting that some individuals have been threatening the guardian and the victim not to report the case, he said, “why there is delay is because some elders from the community are asking the victim to withdraw the case. They are threatening to evict her from her apartment if she reports the case.
“But the lady in question was in the police station yesterday. They have taken her statement and as soon as that is done, the case will be charged to court today or tomorrow,” the police said.
