The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested seven suspects over allegations of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery in Giade Local Government Area.
Spokesman of the command, SP Nafiu Habib, said the suspects attacked two members of the Nigerian Forestry and Security Services attached to Giade Emirate Council in the early hours of January 9.
Habib in a statement issued on Tuesday said, “At about 2:30 a.m., a gang of seven armed men, wielding cutlasses, knives, sticks and a dane gun, attacked Mohammed Musa, aka Baushe, 40, and Auwal Maidawa.
The victims sustained injuries and were robbed of a dane gun, a torchlight and a mobile phone.”
He added that detectives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of Giade, CSP Bello Yusuf Kumo, quickly tracked and arrested one of the suspects, Aminu Abdulkadir, 22, of Ung. Guru.
Interrogation led to the arrest of six others, identified as Habu Musa alias Habule, 24; Adamu Samaila alias Aliyos, 24; Yusuf Sabo alias Isibu Dan Tsure, 24; Abdullahi Garba alias Audu Guntu, 25; and Dan Azar, all from Giade town.
The police said preliminary investigations revealed that the gang had been terrorising the town, breaking into homes and stealing valuables, including thirteen phones, two wrappers, a lace, an MP3 player, and a Bluetooth device, with an estimated value of N1.2 million.
Recovered items include two red Boxer motorcycles, sharp knives, a saw, four ATM cards, five motorcycle ignition switch with keys, and three capacitors.
Investigation is ongoing, and the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the suspects be arraigned in court for prosecution.
