The Ogun State Police Command has responded to the death of popular Afrofuji singer, Afeez “Destiny Boy” Adeshina, who died on Sunday.
PREMIUM TIMES obtained widely circulated social media videos showing Destiny Boy’s remains being transported to a mortuary following the news of his death.
In one clip, the 22-year-old was seen lying in the back of a vehicle, with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears.
Following the death of Destiny Boy, who rose to fame in 2019 after releasing a Fuji cover of Davido’s hit song “If,” fans and concerned individuals demanded answers regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.
Addressing the matter, the police, in a statement posted on their X page on Monday and retweeted by spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Detailed investigation
Mr Babaseyi added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for a detailed investigation.
“The Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing”, the statement he retweeted read.
Destiny Boy
Destiny Boy began his career as a teenager at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, where he worked as a backup dancer for renowned Nigerian Fuji musician Pasuma.
Following his Fuji cover of Davido’s “If,” he went on to release covers of tracks by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor.

In November 2024, he and his partner, Iremide, welcomed their first child.
