Troops of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, operating under the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, have raided a kidnappers’ hideout in Plateau State, arresting suspects and recovering weapons.
The operation was carried out following credible intelligence on the activities of a kidnapping gang operating around Lantom village in Kadarko District of Wase Local Government Area.
This was revealed by security expert Zagazola Makama in a post on his X handle.
Security sources told Makama that the raid took place on January 6, when troops stormed the hideout and arrested four suspected members of the gang.
“Items recovered during the operation included one locally fabricated rifle, an axe and a machete.” Makama revealed.
According to the sources, preliminary investigations showed that the suspects were allegedly responsible for several cases of kidnapping and armed robbery in Kadarko District and its surrounding communities.
The sources further disclosed that two other members of the criminal gang escaped during the initial raid, fleeing with an AK 47 rifle believed to belong to the group.
During interrogation, the arrested suspects reportedly volunteered information on the location of an arms and ammunition cache and offered to lead troops to another hideout on the outskirts of Kadarko.
However, while guiding the soldiers to the location, the suspects allegedly attempted to disarm one of the guards in a bid to escape.
Troops were said to have acted decisively, neutralising the suspects in the process.
Makama further revealed all recovered items are currently in the custody of the troops, while follow up operations are ongoing to arrest the fleeing gang members and recover their weapons.
