At least three people were killed after a violent clash between security officers and local youths in a Katsina neighbourhood on Saturday night.
According to reports, the trouble began when security officers tried to arrest a young man and seized his mobile phone.
A local media in Katsina reported that the situation escalated as the man attempted to retrieve his phone, leading to a confrontation during which he was shot.
“The shooting caused anger among the youths in the area,” a resident said.
“What started as a small incident quickly turned into chaos.”
The tension reportedly grew into a full-blown clash, resulting in the deaths of three people.
During the unrest, an office belonging to the security personnel and several motorcycles were set on fire.
Another local source told Katsina post that residents were left shocked by the violence, adding that many people fled their homes out of fear.
“Everyone is scared that the violence could start again,” the source noted.
As of the time of reporting, the area remains tense, with residents living in fear of further clashes.
Authorities are said to be working to restore calm and prevent the situation from worsening.
