The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 43-year-old Amadin Williams for the alleged murder of his childhood friend, Eghosa Osas.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the arrest on Sunday, adding that the suspect would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
According to sources, the deceased had returned from abroad with his family to celebrate Christmas.
He was reportedly attacked and killed at Oben Community during a housewarming party.
A source said, “I can confirm that Eghosa Osas, 43 years old, was killed by his childhood friend, Amadin Williams, for reasons yet to be ascertained.
“The late Eghosa had returned from abroad to celebrate Christmas with his family. He was attacked and killed at Oben Community during a housewarming party.”
Ikoedem explained that the case was reported by the victim’s elder brother.
She said Eghosa had gone to relieve himself when the suspect allegedly cornered him and inflicted a machete cut on his neck, which claimed his life.
She added, “The report of the murder of Eghosa is true, and the suspect, Amadin Williams, believed to be his childhood friend, is in custody. Investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded.”
In a related development, PUNCH Online reported last week that Edo State police arrested no fewer than 821 suspects for various offences in 2025.
The state Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, said the arrests cut across major crime categories, including 39 armed robbery suspects, 171 kidnapping suspects, 117 murder suspects, 62 linked to rape and sexual offences, 239 cultism suspects, 36 arrested for unlawful possession of firearms, and 157 others for various offences.
