The Nasarawa State Police Command has neutralised a suspected armed robber and recovered a firearm following a gun battle with a criminal gang along the Lafia–Obi Road.
The incident occurred at about 7:45 pm on December 26, 2025, when police operatives attached to the Jenkwe Division encountered a five-man armed robbery syndicate during an intensive patrol of the area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Ramhan Nansel, the suspects had reportedly blocked the highway in an attempt to carry out criminal activities when they were confronted by the patrol team.
“Upon sighting the police patrol team, the suspects engaged the officers in a gun duel,” Nansel said.
He further explained that one of the suspects was neutralised during the exchange of gunfire, leading to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol and one live round of ammunition.
The remaining members of the gang were said to have fled into the surrounding bush with suspected gunshot injuries.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the body of the neutralised suspect had been recovered and deposited at the Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital, while efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Commending the operatives for their conduct, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, praised their gallantry and professionalism and urged them to sustain the momentum in the ongoing fight against crime.
“The operatives must continue to take the fight to criminals in their hideouts to ensure the safety of residents,” the police commissioner said.
The Nasarawa State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, assuring residents of enhanced patrols and proactive measures, especially during the Yuletide period.
